the Homework Battles Begin!

With 3 school age (not in pre-k) kids we get a lot of home work. Schools now a days want to make sure their students are doing 45 mins to an hour a night. Now if you ask me that is rediculous. They are in school for how long; then you want them to come home and do that much. Yet you expect our kids to "get up and move!" well when will we have time?

Something should give, but it doesn't. Anyway, out of the three, the youngest in first grade still thinks homework is cool. Of course it is, you're coloring a tree and asking your parents how old they are! But the two oldest, man it is a struggle.

My oldest just went to JR high and he has homework for 20 mins on each subject, he brings home 4 a night that's 80 mins.. so yea an hour and 20 mins. Plus, he has to do flute for a few and read at least 20 mins a night. So when is my son suppose to go outside, or have a break or anything? He does get home at 3, but still.

The other boy, he has about 45 mins of work, 20 mins reading, and some guitar. He is 9 and in 4th grade. He gets home at 3 as well.

So by the time all is said and done it is after 4 we start dinner, eat, and it's 7, showers, reading, hugs, and good night because the next day we have to wake up at 6am to start the cycle again.

Today there is no more or no less children becoming doctors, lawyers or governors. There is no less or more smarter children. So why the increase in all of this crap? OH I know some stupid guy up in the government thought it would be a good plan to stress young children out and give them these uber supper tests every year to test the schools, their teachers abilities, and to make children feel like crap because they are in a lower math room and can't pass it.

So all of us parents have to deal with our kids being tired, moody, mad, upset and rude because someone thinks this amount of work is ok. Sorry last I checked even the doctor puts in 8 hours a day and is done.

Here from wednesday hop. Newest gfc follower. I feel your pain. My stepdaughter always has such a huge pile of homework and with her ADD it just makes it a nightmare. I really don't think her teachers consult each other. Some nights it can be over 2 hours worth of homework/studying. Poor kid sometimes we've had to get her up at 5 am just so she could finish an assignment or put in a last minute cram session for a test. I don't ever remember having over 2 hours worth of homework! If you get a chance please stop by my blog.

oh boy i couldnt agree more and have voiced basically the same concerns as you wrote about. a social life and down time is needed for a child and our society makes us feel like failures as parents if our kids cannot juggle all of the things we pile on them! just amazing.
