So my aunt Denise (yes my name is after her) has been making this family recipe for a million years, ok maybe just like a hundred! :)I finally got my hands on it a few years back since then I have been tweaking it and such to the point where, yup, I won a few blue ribbons! So today, since I am going apple picking tomorrow and will be making my own this weekend, I figured I would share it with you.
You will need.
For the filling...
4cups of sugar
Not even 1/4 cup of flour (see I don't measure much lol)
Some lemon juice to keep the apples from turning weird I guess only like a spoon full.
6-8 big apples cut up. (don't be dumb peel them and core them)
I put in lots of cinnamon because I love it
And a pinch of nutmeg
Mix all the dry together then mix apples (after cut up) and lemon juice. Mix the dry and wet together bam you gots your filling easy right?
Crust. So this is my secret and I'm actually getting sick of even typing it out and sharing with the world lol.
The bottom I use just a simple frozen pie crust or a simple recipe one I find by google lol. But the top this is where the diabetic shock comes from... Yes not the 4 cups of sugar lol.
You will need.
4packs of cinnamon and apple oatmeal bags (yup the ones you microwave or add boiling water too.
3/4 cup of brown sugar
Cinnamon (I shake a bunch in because I love it again I don't measure much)
1 and 1/2 sticks of melted butter (did i mention not only the sugar count but calorie count is wicked too.)
You mix it all together of course :) and that is your top! No crust top just that. You paste it till the top is covered. it should be thick so you flatten it.
You bake on 350 I have no idea how long I watch mine and when it shrinks I check with a knife if the apples are soft it's done. Google says it should take about 40-50 mins...
So there you go it :) and judging by my blue ribbons I would say people like it. But who am I to judge... I am a mean baker tho :)
